Good news and a H U G E "Thanks"!
First of all, I'd like to say "Thanks" to everyone who supports this project. I'm pretty proud of you, still downloading and using SmallTune, although it's been a while since the latest version.
Well, I'm afraid that my announcement will disappoint some of you, but - well, time moves on and progress is progress: I've switched the language I'm developing with. Because of my job, I'm now forced to work with C#. And, as nearly all of you know, C# is .NET
And Embarcadero, developer of Delphi, decided to abandon the free version. Therefore, I decided to abandon Delphi.
BUT... There are of course some benefits. C# and WPF makes developing and customizing UI even easier. I can do a lot of amazing stuff with C#, which wouldn't have been possible with Delphi. Another point, and thats why development takes such a long time, I'm currently working on a smart musicplayer.
Imagine the following situation: You come home from a pretty hard day at work and would like to relax. So you switch on your PC, start SmallTune ( :P ) and select the shuffle mode. What SmallTune actually does is generating a playlist in shuffeled order. It's completely random.
So, the first song SmallTune starts with is e.g. "Feuer frei" by "Rammstein". Ungh... Nope, nothing you'd like now, you'd like to relax. So you skip this track. And, surprise, the next track is "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" by "Megadeth". F*ck! I want to relax!
Ok, sit back and relax. I'm currently working on an Analysis Method, which takes care about your current mood. At the point, where you create your Playlist, SmallTune will analyse the songs. It will check the speed, the overall loudness, the beats per minutes and some other magics. ;) Finally, you'll be able to select your mood and SmallTune will carefully select the songs that fit to your mood. SmallTune also remembers the order you played your songs. It will try to play your songs in nearly the same order.
Of course, developing and implementing such algorithms takes some time. You may expect a fully working version next year. Hopefully... :\
Back again!
Hi everyone,
it's been a while since the last post on this page - but SmallTune is still alive. I'm currently writing on it again. ;)
Nothing brand new to tell here at this point - sorry.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Hmm...
I've got three news for you, as the title already stated out:
The Good
Development of SmallTune went quite well the last weeks. I've implemented most of the necessary interfaces, and it already plays MP3-Files.
The Bad
Unfortunately, flexibility has it's prize: The size of SmallTune was doubled, it has about 400kB in size now.
The Ugly
I have to work on a commercial project now, because I can't only live from love and air. Therefore, SmallTune will be slightly delayed. You may expect the new version between March and April this year. Sorry for that, but what's first goes first.
